Can you play two expansion packs at once on the sims 3?

my friend bought ambitions and i bought world adventures. can we exchange them with eachother and still play both expansion packs?Can you play two expansion packs at once on the sims 3?
I don't think so, you have to have the disk in your computer to play any sims EP. If you try to play the game without the disc it's going to say please insert disc.
